Explication

There are three ways to ask a yes/no question in French. The easiest is intonation — just raise your voice: Tu parles français ?

More formal: add Est-ce que at the beginning: Est-ce que tu parles français ? Most formal: inversion (swap subject and verb): Parles-tu français ?

For open questions, use question words: Qui (who), Que/Quoi (what), Où (where), Quand (when), Pourquoi (why), Comment (how), Combien (how much/many).
