Fiche de révision

Regular -IR verbs follow a distinct pattern. They have a special -iss- infix in the plural forms, which makes them easy to recognize.

Pattern: drop -ir, add: -is, -is, -it, -issons, -issez, -issent. Example with finir (to finish):

Common -IR verbs: choisir (to choose), réussir (to succeed), grandir (to grow), réfléchir (to think/reflect). But careful — NOT all -ir verbs follow this pattern! Verbs like partir, dormir, sortir are irregular.

Astuces

The -ISS- in plural forms is the fingerprint of regular -IR verbs: finissons, finissez, finissent.
Je finis and tu finis look and sound identical — context tells you which is which.
Test if an -ir verb is regular: does it have -issons for nous? If yes, it’s regular. If not (nous partons), it’s irregular.
Common irregular -ir verbs to watch: partir, sortir, dormir, venir, tenir — these follow DIFFERENT patterns.
